Understanding LEC (Requirements, Validity & Legal Basics)

This FAQ section answers the most common questions about what a LEC is, when it’s required, how long it’s valid, and what legal implications it has for your business.

LEC (Licensed Electrician Certification) is an official document submitted to HEDNO that certifies your electrical installation is safe and compliant with current legal and technical standards in Greece. It is issued by a licensed electrical engineer or electrician after a full on-site inspection.

 LEC is required for:

  • Establishing a new electricity connection
  • Reconnecting power after disconnection
  • Updating ownership or usage of the property
  • Periodic renewals (typically every 2–10 years depending on use and building type)

2, 5 or 10 years depending on the type of building.

Yes. According to Greek regulations, all commercial buildings must have a valid LEC on file to maintain an active connection with HEDNO-ΔΕΔΔΗΕ (the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator).

An expired or missing LEC may result in:

  • Fines or legal complications.
  • Delays in business operations.
  • Denied connection or reconnection to the power grid.

ELECSAFE helps you avoid these risks by ensuring fast, certified documentation.
